User qualification for Friction Stir Welding (FSW) 2008

User qualification for automatic welding plants are standardized in Europe under EN 1418 and internationally under ISO 14732. These standards show that more and more automatic welding plants are being used in industries and manual welding is being superseded wherever possible and useful.

There are many automatic welding plants. JOIN developed the user qualification for the FSW-systems and was put to usage in September 2008 for the first time. This was made possible through the cooperation of the following JOIN-projects: B6, B7, E1 and E2, together with the JOIN ARGE partners IWS-TUGraz, SZA and TÜV-SÜD-SZA.

The Technical University of Graz was responsible for the training. The qualification was held by the TÜV-SÜD-SZA. The accredited certification authority SZA was in charge of the certifications.

At the moment, this training, qualification and certification for FSW-users according to EN 1418 and ISO 14732 is not just the first, but the only one in the world.

Trainer: Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Weinberger, IWS
Examiner: Dipl.-Ing. Johann Hohenwarter, TÜV SÜD SZA
