modelling JOIN core competency "modelling and simulation"
Modelling and simulation are central tools to develop new processes, as well as deepening the understanding of processes inside of the material. Especially the institute of material science and welding techniques at the Technical University in Graz has been dealing with these methods for years and is able to show extensive own experience. One result of this occupation is amongst others, the international conference "Numerical Analysis of Weldability", that will be held for the 9th time in 2009.
Within the framework of JOIN different procedures are being modelled numerically:
- friction-welding (temperature- and structure development, deformation)
- Clinched (deformation, residual stress)
- material flow and energies during friction-stir welding
- residual stress caused by arc welding (including subsequent treatments)
Of course, suitable tests to verify the outputs are necessary. Regarding their design and execution, JOIN offers the specific know-how.
Various outputs of this work are published in relevant literature.
